Gender-based violence is an important concern for human rights. Many people have already experienced  gender-based violence. May suffer from different forms  of human rights violations. Why Gender-Based Violence Demands Global Action

What is gender-based violence?

The violence refers to any  physical, sexual, psychological or  economic harm. Inflicted on  women, including threats of such harm.  These violations  occur in both private and public places, as defined by the United Nations.

The Cause of Gender-Based Violence:

This violence  comes from many causes, such as discrimination, inequality, harmful social norms, economic dependence, etc.

At its core lies a power of imbalance. In many societies, people still believe that men are given more authority, freedom, and control  than women. This mindset  and imbalance often create conditions where violence becomes  a tool  to maintain dominance over  women.

  1. In some families some men feel entitled to control women economically and even their bodies
  2. In certain male-dominated workplaces, female employees sometimes  tolerate harassment, when  men exploit their positions of power. (ILO Report)
  3. In communities traditional practices and discriminatory laws may reinforce the idea that men are superior, making it harder for women to seek justice.

WHEN ONE GENDER HAS MORE POWER OVER ANOTHER, VIOLENCE BECOMES A WAY TO  KEEP  THE OTHER GENDER “IN THEIR PLACE.” IT STARTS WITH INEQUALITY. SO, UNTIL WE CHALLENGE THESE POWER IMBALANCES, THE CYCLE OF ABUSE WILL NEVER END.

Why Gender-Based Violence Demands Global Action

National-Level Action Remains Essential on Gender-Based Violence:

Gender-based  violence is not just a private- or national-level issue—it’s a global problem and a major challenge. It impacts human rights, health, education, and also economic progress. (WHO Data)

The Role of Youth for Gender-Based Violence:

I want to raise my voice for youth. Our young people must  play a pivotal role in breaking this cycle of gender-based violence, Supported by strong national policies. This can be achieved  through awareness campings, peer education, and digital activism. (Youth for Human Rights)

When we empower our youth voices and support them with effective policies, India can build a society Where gender equality is not just an  aspiration but it  lived reality.
